In Pripyat, the model city of the Soviet Union, buildings were adorned with symbols of power.
At the top of this apartment block, the hammer and sickle, surrounded by wheat and crowned with the red star, reminded everyone that the future belonged to Soviet socialism.
It was an omnipresent emblem, visible from every corner of the city.
Today, the symbol remains, rusted and faded, a relic of an empire that collapsed along with the dream it once embodied.
