Milan’s Fountain of the Castle is a work with deep historical roots, a witness to a tumultuous past and a surprising rebirth. Built in 1936 on the occasion of Mussolini’s visit and solidified in 1939, the fountain was shrouded during the war and dismantled in 1959 during subway construction. However, its story didn’t end there.

After decades of obscurity in a warehouse, in 1999, spurred by the Municipality of Milan, the Fountain of the Castle came back to life. The new project, overseen by the Urban Furnishing and Greenery Department of the Municipality of Milan, aimed to faithfully reproduce the original while integrating it into the urban fabric in a contemporary manner.

The fountain, covering an area of about 1,200 sqm, features a circular system with basins at different levels, creating water games and cascades. The rim, crafted from weather-resistant Vicenza stone, seamlessly blends with the quartz-smoothed basin floor, exuding timeless elegance.

Today, the Fountain of the Castle is not merely a decorative element but a beloved meeting point for both locals and tourists. Strategically positioned before the entrance to the Castle and adjacent gardens, it offers a pleasant respite and enchanting views.

This resurrected symbol tells a tale of perseverance and renewal, preserving its original charm while gracefully intertwining with Milan’s contemporary life.
